The Cleveland Browns' Robert Griffin III experiment took a detour Monday when the quarterback was placed on injured reserve.
Griffin suffered a fractured coracoid bone in his shoulder Sunday. He will be re-evaluated in a month. The move means that Griffin is out for at least the first eight weeks of 2016. Griffin completed 12-of-26 passes for 190 yards and one interception in the 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He stayed in the game, despite the injury to his non-throwing shoulder.
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer initially reported she wouldn't be surprised if Griffin's injury forced him to sit out Week 2. ESPN's Adam Schefter later said that the injury is "potentially serious."
The Browns announced the move to put him on injured reserve on Twitter. Griffin, 26, signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Browns in March. He completed 147-of-214 passes for 1,694 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions in his final season as a starter in 2014 with Washington.
For fantasy football's sake, don't expect too much of a downgrade for the Browns' offensive arsenal. Josh McCown is set to step in for Griffin and could be seen as an upgrade for the declining former Heisman Trophy winner.
