A 22-year-old baby sitter from Palm Bay, Florida has been arrested in connection to the death of a 5-year-old girl she was watching.
Jacqueline Chiara Bjorndal, 22, was babysitting Aubrie Alcott, 5, when she had decided to let her play outside by herself. According to Bjorndal, the 5-year-old wanted to play with her pet pig by the pool. Instead of joining her outside, Bjorndal was "smoking meth and marijuana," while Alcott went outside.
Reports state Bjorndal's roommate had arrived at the house 20 minutes after Alcott had gone outside to play, and saw her at the bottom of the pool. He immediately called 9-1-1, who walked him through CPR steps. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities arrived.
Palm Bay Police Lt. Mike Banish claims that Alcott's mother warned Bjorndal to not let her daughter anywhere near the pool.
"The mother knew that Aubrie couldn't swim and she didn't want her back by the pool."
However, she was not being watched by the babysitter, who was using drugs instead of doing her job. Now, Bjorndal is being held at Brevard County Detention Center with no bond. She has been charged with Aggravated Manslaughter by Neglect of a Child and her arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 5.
