A child has been left scarred for life following a horrific dog attack in Liverpool.
The then six-year-old needed emergency surgery after an American Bulldog named Tyson escaped through a garden gate and left him with deep bite wounds.
The youngster has a total of 59 scars across their legs.
During the attack, the dog locked its jaws onto the child’s right leg, and only let go after the victim’s mother forced it to let go.
The child was confined to a wheelchair for two weeks – including on their seventh birthday.
Kayleigh Nimmo, who owns the pet, admitted being in charge of a dangerous dog.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, a relative of the victim said: ‘The mum heard the screams but the dog already had the child’s leg. She had to prise its mouth open because she was afraid the leg would be torn off if Kayleigh pulled to get the dog off.
‘The child was wetting the bed and is now terrified of dogs and has nightmares. The family only went out twice over Christmas and both times by taxi, so they wouldn’t see any dogs.
‘Everyone who sees the photos says it looks like they were attacked by a shark.’
The child is now reportedly seeing a child psychologist and has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.
In a victim impact statement read to the court the child said that they ‘thought I was going to die’.
Nimmo was handed a 10 month prison sentence suspended for two years and was disqualified from owning another dog for five years.
She was also ordered to pay compensation of £1,500.
A destruction order was placed on the dog by the court.
