Mariah Carey team claims she was ‘sabotaged’ during her nightmarish New Year’s Eve performance

Mariah Carey’s team has claimed her disastrous performance in Times Square on New Year’s Eve was down to sabotage by the production team.
According to sources, the singer told Dick
Clark Productions that her ‘inner ears’ weren’t working twice, and
that her request that they be fixed before she went on stage was either
ignored or defied.
According to TMZ,
the 46-year-old was told her earpieces were working at a ‘different
frequency’ in the run-up to her show, and that ‘it would be fine once
she was on stage’.
‘However, that was not the
case and they were told again that her ear piece was not working. But
instead of fixing the issue so that Mariah could perform, they went
live,’ a source close to the star told the Mail Online.

Mariah’s decision to perform anyway, allegedly to ‘honour her commitment’, therefore meant she was ‘essentially flying blind’.
But a rep for Dick Clark
Productions has hit back: ‘As the premier producer of live television
events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and
long-standing relationships with artists.
‘To
suggest that Dick Clark Productions, as producer of music shows
including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s
Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever
intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory,
outrageous and frankly absurd.

‘In very
rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with
live television. However, an initial investigation has indicated that
DCP had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New
Year’s Eve performance.
‘We want to be clear that
we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge
her tremendous accomplishments in the industry,’ they concluded.

While Mariah’s three-track
set was plagued by embarrassing out-of-sync ‘singing’ and rambling, an
earlier comment seemed to suggest the sound problem began earlier.
‘It’s hard for me to hear
you,’ Mariah told host Ryan Seacrest during a pre-performance chat,
which was the first obvious sign she was having trouble.
Metro.co.uk contacted Mariah’s reps for further comment.
