Rafael Nadal cruised into the second round of the Australian Open after beating Florian Mayer in straight sets.
The Spaniard came through what was on paper a relatively tricky tie, with the German a former world No. 18.
But the 30-year-old was in good form and wrapped up a 6-3 6-4 6-4 win over a man now ranked at 49 in the world.
It was a good start for Nadal who broke early in the first set and looked very comfortable in a 6-3 win.

Mayer kept plugging away but a late break in the second for the Spaniard ensured he had a two-set lead and broke in similar fashion in the third.
Elsewhere in the men’s draw on Day 2, 24th seed Alexander Zverev was involved in a lengthy battle with experienced Dutchman Robin Haase but came through in five sets to win 6-2 3-6 5-7 6-3 6-2.
The 19-year-old German will now face Frances Tiafoe in round two, with the winner likely to take on Nadal in the third round.
World No. 3 Milos Raonic is also through to the second round after beating Dustin Brown 6-3 6-4 6-2.
David Goffin had a much tougher time against Reilly Opelka, with the 19-year-old forcing the 11th seed to five sets before the Belgian won 6-4 4-6 6-2 4-6 6-4.
