A pensioner was fined £80 for pouring coffee down a drain.
Sue Peckitt, 65, didn’t like the taste of the drink after she bought it in London.
But she didn’t want to just throw it into the bin, as it would have made the rest of the rubbish soggy and unpleasant for whoever had to collect it.
‘So I poured it down the drain and then I started to walk to the bin to put the cup in the bin,’ the former civil servant told Go West London.
‘The enforcement officers stopped me and said I was breaking the law, then I filled in all the forms and they fined me £80.’
‘I think there is a big problem with litter but it is bizarre, I had put this coffee down (the drain) because it was the safe and environmentally friendly thing to do,’ she said.

It happened at Ealing Broadway shopping centre in November last year.
The paper reported that Sue tried to appeal the fine, but was unsuccessful.
However,  Ealing Council has now agreed to refund the original fine and is investigating why it happened.
A spokesperson said: ‘The council has investigated this particular case and will be dropping the fine originally issued.
‘Our priority is to make sure that the borough is clean and litter free and we apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.’
Sue said told the paper she was ‘delighted’ but had not yet been contacted by the council.
